R.I.P. Our Sarah Jane

On April 19, 2011, Elisabeth Sladen, the actress most-recognized as the Doctor Who companion Sara-Jane Smith, died of cancer.  There have been several tributes done by her fans and colleagues, both her and across the pond; including the BBC re-playing the 1976 Doctor Who story The Hand of Fear.

I was a late-comer to Doctor Who, and as a result, my admiration of Sarah Jane, and Elisabeth Sladen, started during the time of the Tenth Doctor.  As such, I have a hard time separating Elisabeth Sladen from Sarah Jane; the curiosity and vivaciousness of Sarah Jane seemed so true to Elisabeth Sladen that perhaps there was no separation necessary.  Though only acquainted with her briefly, she was brilliant, and the kind of woman I would have liked to know personally.  Of the tributes done, this one seems the most fitting.

Rest in Peace Our Sarah Jane.

Pixar's Merida Could be the Princess I've been Waiting For

Looking capable, intrepid, and wonderfully ginger, Princess Merida has arrived!

Pixar's has released the first trailer and poster of their upcoming film Brave - expected Summer 2012. Though the entire storyline has yet to be revealed, the Internet is abuzz with the prospect of the (mostly) winning Pixar presenting their first film with a female lead.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

Why is it so Difficult to Find a Geeky Boy?

I love this video for various reasons.  For years, I listened to geek boys complain about not being able to get a date, but the truth is it's even harder for geek girls.  I've mentioned this before, so no need for another post on it; but, I'm happy to see that College Humor (occasionally funny) is finally portraying it from both sides.  Geek boys don't like to be out-geeked by women; but, it IS HAPPENING.  Minus the gaming references, this girl is me.  As the Mary Sue said, I've been on both ends of this conversation . . . but I've never slapped anyone :)

OMO! It's been too Long!

Hello my fellow G.N.O.C.s,

It has been too long!  I can't believe I haven't blogged in over 3 months - what the heck?!  However, while I have not been writing, I have definitely been reading; and, do I have a lot to discuss.  Since we last spoke, Osama Bin Laden has been killed, Wonder Woman has been canceled, Sucker Punch has sucked,  Fast Five has re-energized, Thor has made me fantasize, and Winter is coming.

As such, my next couple of posts will be a mix of current ongoings in the geek/nerd community and belated musings on past events; the latter to be tagged as "Back Logs".  A few things that have been so well covered that I can't (currently) add anything else to the discussion (i.e., the DC Reboot), will simply be a post with links.

So, let's get started!
