Sailor Moon's New Reincarnation on the Eve of Its 20th Birthday

On the eve of the series' 20th anniversary, Takeuchi and Kodansha Comics announced that a new serialized Sailor Moon anime is in the works to premiere summer 2013.  Does this mean the lesbian relationship of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune won't be censored out of the new anime?

Hi!!!!

Hello my little G.N.O.C.chis (and others),

It has been a very long time.  During my hiatus, I took some times to contemplate the reason for this blog; and, I've come to the same conclusion.  I'm not here to provide ground-breaking news on the entertainment and comic book industry, or controversial statements on race or color.  I just want to discuss geek issues as they relate to minorities.  So, comment if you want to express yourself, or read to hear another perspective.  On to my musings!

Why Can't (DC) Female Superheroes be Successfully Adapted to Live-Action?

Over at The Mary Sue, they have released footage from the failed Wonder Woman pilot. Go watch it.

I completely agree with their critique that it would've worked in the 90s.  It would've been a modern-day Xena ripoff, but it would've worked.  In the comments, one blogger spoke to DC's inability (thus far) to successfully adapt female superheroes to live-action forms of entertainment - television and film specifically.  It got me thinking: Why are DC female superheroes so horribly handled in live-action adaptations?

With SDCC upon us, and therefore the start of a new Con year, I think this video is wholly appropriate.  Please enjoy, and cosplay safely; and, remember: think outside the gold bikini :)

Pants are Not the Cure: Strong Female Characters vs Strong Characters, Female

"Strong Female Characters" from the webcomic Hark! A Vagrant

Sometimes satire so accurately portrays society's misconception of equality that I have trouble laughing . . .

R.I.P. Our Sarah Jane

On April 19, 2011, Elisabeth Sladen, the actress most-recognized as the Doctor Who companion Sara-Jane Smith, died of cancer.  There have been several tributes done by her fans and colleagues, both her and across the pond; including the BBC re-playing the 1976 Doctor Who story The Hand of Fear.

I was a late-comer to Doctor Who, and as a result, my admiration of Sarah Jane, and Elisabeth Sladen, started during the time of the Tenth Doctor.  As such, I have a hard time separating Elisabeth Sladen from Sarah Jane; the curiosity and vivaciousness of Sarah Jane seemed so true to Elisabeth Sladen that perhaps there was no separation necessary.  Though only acquainted with her briefly, she was brilliant, and the kind of woman I would have liked to know personally.  Of the tributes done, this one seems the most fitting.

Rest in Peace Our Sarah Jane.

Pixar's Merida Could be the Princess I've been Waiting For

Looking capable, intrepid, and wonderfully ginger, Princess Merida has arrived!

Pixar's has released the first trailer and poster of their upcoming film Brave - expected Summer 2012. Though the entire storyline has yet to be revealed, the Internet is abuzz with the prospect of the (mostly) winning Pixar presenting their first film with a female lead.

Watch the trailer after the jump.
